First Time Home Buyer

If we had a penny for everything we did not know when we bought our first homes…

Well, due to inflation perhaps we wouldn’t have all that much, after all. But, believe is, we wished then that we had had a place to find answers to our questions.

That is why we think it is incredibly important for us to sit down with you (and preferably also your lender) to walk through the home buying process together.

Putting the elements of the process in to context can make the difference between a positive home buying experience and a maximum frustration. We will ask to meet with you over coffee or at your home for about an hour to present the Home Buyer Orientation.

Here are some guides and links that can help you make the right decision and help you understand the process.

  1. The Home Buying Process –This is a little PDF presentation that I did to help you understand the steps required to buy a home. And here’s a blog series on the home-buying process.
  1. Dos and Don’ts of Buying a House –If you are a few months away from starting your search, have a look at this. It might help you get ready.
  1. How Much House Can I Afford? –Many people prior to the recession bought “too much house” (sometimes because real estate agents tried to sell them too much). The best rule of thumb with your first home is to start smaller than you actually need to and save, save, save! This Excel spreadsheet will help you figure all of that out.
  1. Condo vs House –Here are some things to consider if you are torn between condo living and the traditional “40 acres and a mule.” Ok, a home these days are more like “1/8 of an acre and a pet.” But you get the idea.
